DETROIT (SILVER STAR NATION) — After trading back to gain another top-100 selection, the newest addition to the roster of America's Team was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night.
The Dallas Cowboys held the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft heading into Thursday, April 25, 2024. However, they elected to move back in the first round in exchange for an additional draft pick within the top 100 picks of the draft.
The Cowboys traded the 24th overall pick and a 7th-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Detroit Lions in exchange for the 29th overall pick in the first round and the 73rd overall pick in the third round.
With the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Tyler Guyton, an offensive tackle from the University of Oklahoma.

Background on the newest Dallas Cowboy
It's hard to understate just how massive the Cowboys' first-round pick truly is. Literally.

Guyton stands at just under 6'8", and although he weighs 322 pounds, it's predominantly muscle. Guyton is a very athletic lineman with long arms and quick feet.
Guyton was originally a basketball player before switching to football in high school. He played his first two years of college football at TCU before transferring to OU.
During his two years at OU, Guyton played 13 games at right tackle and one at left tackle. In 14 starts for the Sooners over two years, he only allowed 16 quarterback pressures and 2 sacks. He was an All-Big-12 Honorable Mention his senior season.
While his raw talent jumps off the tape, there's not much tape on Guyton. He has some developing to do before he makes a massive difference for the Cowboys. However, given time, he has the upside to be a cornerstone of the offensive line for years to come.
Guyton also has a connection to Wichita Falls. His father, Alvin Guyton, played basketball at Midwestern State University in the 1990s.
Reaction to Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft for the Cowboys

With the selection of Guyton in the first round, the Cowboys address a massive need with a high-ceiling player in Guyton.
For the second time in three years, the Dallas Cowboys selected an offensive lineman from an Oklahoma college named Tyler with raw talent that needs development, but an incredibly high ceiling.
It worked out well in 2022 for second-year Pro Bowler Tyler Smith, and given the success rate Dallas has when drafting an offensive lineman in the first round, there's plenty of reason for Cowboys fans to feel great about this selection.
Not to mention the fact that they also added another top-100 pick for Friday night.
Looking ahead to Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft
The second and third rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024, with the Carolina Panthers scheduled to be on the clock with the 33rd overall pick at 6:00 p.m. Central.
Thanks to their trade with the Lions in the first round, the Dallas Cowboys will make three selections on the second day of the draft, with one pick in the second round and two picks in the third round.
- Round 2 — Pick 24 (56 Overall)
- Round 3 — Pick 9 (73 Overall)
- Round 3 — Pick 23 (87 Overall)
